5 TraitsTo Embrace To Live Without Regret - Kathy Caprino
5 TraitsTo Embrace To Live Without Regret Today I had a shock. I heard from a mother of a lovely young woman I had spoken with on the phone nearly three years ago about career coaching. I learned from her mother that this beautiful, vibrant young woman was gone. She had passed away in her home in June 2011, just one month after I spoke with her. And amazingly, the young woman was from my home town. I was truly rocked by this news. I was so touched by the motherâs beautiful note to me (she hadnât wanted to just âunsubscribeâ her daughter from my newsletter, but wanted to explain, and share the sad news personally). I was rocked because I have beloved children myself who are so precious to me, and I can only glimpse of the pain a parent feels at losing her dearest child so young. And finally, I was rocked at the idea that this young womanâs life and my own had intersected only for a brief moment in time, and I wondered how she would have experienced and remembered our interaction. I prayed she would have thought of it as helpful and caring. If not, I would deeply regret it. That got me thinking. We strive so hard to live good lives, to be âhappy,â to find our way, and to create success and joy, and share it with others. But Ive realized lately that itâs just not that complicated. Itâs very simple, in fact. Maybe living well, with happiness and without regret, is simply about demonstrating in physical reality five essential traits that help us leave this world a better place than we found it. If it were truly this simple â" just five essential behaviors would we all do a better job of living without regret, of embracing and sharing joy and love with others, and feeling much better every moment of our existence? I think so. What are these 5 traits that are essential to regret-free, joyful living? I believe they are: Kindness Kindness is the sweetness of life. Itâs a gentle hand when weâre down, a non-judging, listening ear when we have a problem, and itâs an unselfish act that puts the best interests of others first. Itâs giving without looking for âwhatâs in it for me.â I, like you perhaps, interact with hundreds of people each month, and I endeavor to be kind to each one, but sometimes I fail. When Iâm tired, over-worked, stressed, frustrated â" you name it â" my kindness wanes. Truthfully speaking, I can often get grumpy and agitated when strangers desperately want and demand something from me. But I have found that I can overcome that agitation, and I am more successful at that when Iâm more âpresentâ in my life. When I can step back from whatâs at hand, take three deep breaths and remember what Iâm doing here on this planet, and when I connect to a higher dimension of myself that isnât so worn down from the obligations in front of me, my access to kindness opens. Then, Iâm able recalibrate and re-energize, and find my heart again. Itâs not hard â" it just takes commitment and practice. Kindness heals sorrow, binds broken relationships, and mends souls (our own and othersâ). So why then are we so unkind? What takes you away for your kindness and what helps you restore it? Can you make a habit of rekindling your kindness each day? Caring To me, caring is about taking the time to give a hand to someone, to show that their issues and problems are important, and their worldview matters. Caring means that you validate the individual before you, and show that you understand who they are at their core, and love and respect that essence. The opposite of caring is the snarky back-stabbing, gossiping, hateful behavior we see around us every day â" online and in person. Making someone wrong and judging them mercilessly is a hallmark of it. This lack of caring reveals that youâve forgotten one core truth â" that everyone is inextricably connected, and each person is a facet of you. So if youâre hateful to another person, youâre hateful to yourself. Are you as caring for those around you as youâd like to be? Are you caring to yourself in equal measure (thatâs where most women fall down.) What holds you back from exhibiting more care and concern for yourself and for others? Compassion Of all of these traits, I believe compassion is the most powerful to heal the world. Compassion represents the feeling of empathy for others, the emotion we feel in response to the suffering or experiences of others that inspires in us a desire to help. In my work as a therapist and coach, Iâve observed that those who were raised without compassion, without empathy â" by parents who were narcissistic, cruel, distorted, and unable to feel compassion â" are those who suffer the severest forms of pain, isolation, and suffering. Is your compassion for others and the world somehow being strangled by your current struggles and your mindset? Can you find a new way to grow your compassion for yourself, and for others? Helpfulness In working with women to move away from careers they dislike, there is inevitably a sense of meaning, purpose and helpfulness that is missing and that they long for. As Maria Nemeth shared in her powerful book The Energy of Money, we are all happiest when weâre demonstrating in physical reality what we know to be true about ourselves, when weâre giving form to our Life Intentions in ways that help others. I know too many people who focus only of what they have in front of them â" either their struggles and strife or, on the flip side, their wealth, achievements and outer âthingsâ (toys, cars, houses, bank accounts) they are amassing with no regard of how they can be of help in the world. In the end, if you focus only on yourself and your tiny sphere of influence, youâll be wasting your talents and your abilities, and losing a precious opportunity to make a real difference in the world. The result will be that, at the end of your life, you will experience deep sadness, regret and remorse that you wasted your precious time, energy and your life looking out for only yourself. Who can you help today? Truthfulness Finally, Iâve seen that people experience deep pain and suffering from the lies theyâve told â" to themselves and to others. Lying reflects a deep-seated fear that we are not âenoughâ â" not strong, smart, courageous, good or powerful enough â" to deal with the real consequences of our true actions and beliefs, so we lie. But lying hurts. When you lie to yourself, you rob yourself of the chance to evaluate accurately and fully how best to move forward. And lying to others limits their ability to make the right choices and decisions for themselves. The bottom line: lying stops you and others from growing, living and loving life to the fullest. The flip side â" truthfulness â" does indeed set you free. Truthfulness allows you to be free with and accepting of yourself, and lets others be themselves, and act with honesty, authenticity and transparency as well. Where are you being false, and what truth can you share today that will change everything for you? * * * * These five traits can be viewed as agreements you make with yourself. If you commit to being to being more kind, caring, compassionate, helpful and truthful each day, I guarantee, without reservation, that your life experience will improve dramatically, and regrets will fade. Six tips to help you from being overwhelmed by your job hunt -
Six tips to help you from being overwhelmed by your job hunt - The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one. Mark Twain, in The Success Principles, by Jack Canfield It seems obvious you cant be successful until you get started. Earlier this week, I wrote about how making a plan for your job hunt is a big step in the right direction. You cant get started on everything at once, so break it down and work on one thing at a time. My friend and business coach Cindy Petersiel introduced me to a term that describes this basic, yet important idea: chunk it down. (Although, I have to admit that Im not a big fan of the term itself. Something about the word chunk doesnt appeal to me. The concept, however, is very sound! As a career coach, I advise my clients to chunk down their tasks so they wont be overwhelmed by the process of finding a job. Its great advice for any of us facing lots to do and not enough time. (That pretty much describes most people I know!) Some tips for chunking it down: 1.) Review your assignments and goals. Create a list of everything you need to do. Make sure you have a complete picture of the tasks and create a time frame. 2.) Break down the project into natural segments. Write a resume may be one project. Make a networking plan is another task. Prioritize the segments and think about how much time each piece will take to complete. 3.) Focus on one thing at a time. Compile a daily to do list. Make sure it is reasonable; dont give yourself too many tasks on one day. Depending on the job and your patience, you may need to further chunk down the steps. (No one should expect to write a resume in a day!) To decide what to do first, consult your list of priorities. To keep your focus, try to include some fun, interesting or simple tasks early on. If youre doing things you enjoy or finish rapidly, youll give your project a boost and quickly check things off of your to do list. 4.) Plan ahead. Make sure you have everything you need to work on your task as scheduled. 5.) Seek help. It helps to have a good support system. Ask for advice when youre really stuck and to ensure that you are on the right track. (Ive had many clients who are so relieved to partner with an expert so they dont have to worry if they are on the right track.) Learn how I can help you move ahead with your job hunt. 6.) Reward yourself. Celebrate your accomplishments. Do something fun! Get ahead by getting started timeless advice for job seekers! photo by Harold.Lloyd

Womens Equality Day State of Womens Equality in the Workplace
Women's Equality Day State of Women's Equality in the Workplace The wage gap is by far the most visible and talked about issue when it comes to equal status for women in the workplace. But itâs hardly the only one. Though they make up nearly half the workforce, women hold only 4% of CEO positions at SP 500 companies, and just 16% of senior management roles. And while women are graduating from college in greater numbers than men and earning comparable salaries when they enter the workforce, many find themselves taking a step back just when their careers should be taking off, a move that can have serious consequences for future earnings and retirement savings. So today, on Womenâs Equality Dayâ"commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to voteâ"letâs take a look at how far women in the workplace have come, and how far they still have to go. The Issue: Equal Pay Everyone has heard the oft-quoted statistic that women bring home 79 cents for every manâs dollar. Itâs a useful shorthand for the larger problem, although equal pay is a complex issue thatâs hard to boil down to a few simple numbers. The wage gap varies by industry, skill level, age, and individual circumstance. (For a great primer on the nuances, see Sarah Kliffâs âTruth About the Wage Gapâ in Vox.) Read Next: 6 Excuses for the Gender Pay Gap You Can Stop Using One solution for closing the gap is to get more women in high-paying professions to begin with, such as careers in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math). According to one study, women engineers and architects earned more right out of school than their male peers. (The advantage didnât last though: the gap reversed and widened over time, as it does in other high-paying professions like law and medicine.) These are some efforts currently under way to promote wage equality: Salary transparency: Earlier this year, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission proposed a set of laws that would require companies with over 100 employees to submit employeesâ salary information broken down by gender, race, and ethnicity. By openly sharing details of how much everyone in the company earns, advocates argue, wage inequity will be exposed and rectified. Not everyone is convinced with this logic; some believe that making salary information available for all to see will only create a toxic work culture ripe with distrust and jealousy. Salary history: Earlier this month, Massachusetts became the first state to pass a law banning employers from asking prospective hires about salary history. Because women and minorities tend to earn less than white men at the start their careers, basing future pay off past pay, the thinking goes, means theyâll always lag behindâ"and the gap will only grow wider over time (the gap does in fact widen with age, reaching its widest point at age 32). Additionally, the law holds that companies must base pay on the market value for the job, not on whatever an employee was paid previously. New York City recently proposed similar legislation, as have a handful of other states. Company-led audits: Not all the activity on this issue is happening in the public sector. High-profile companies like Salesforce and Pinterest have conducted internal salary audits to ensure that unconscious bias hasnât led to salary discrimination; Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff spent about $3 million last year to close the pay gap he uncovered in the companyâs ranks. Read Next: These Are the 20 Best-Paying Jobs for Women Right Now The Issue: Paid Leave and Subsidized Childcare Another cornerstone issue for womenâs equality is paid parental leave. Currently, the U.S. and Papua New Guinea are the only countries in the world with no federal law guaranteeing some type of paid leave. One of the reasons the gap widens at age 32 is because that is when many women leave the workforce to have and care for children; itâs also around the age workers start to really move up the corporate ladder. Once out, itâs often difficult to reenter, particularly when you factor in the cost of child care. A recent survey by Care.com found that one-fifth of U.S. households spend more than 25% of their income on childcare. In other words, many women simply canât afford not to stay home with their children. Paid leave, then, is seen by many as the single biggest way to ensure equality between the sexes. A 2012 study from the Center for Women and Work at Rutgers University found that âwomen who use paid leave are far more likely to be working nine to 12 months after a childâs birth than those who do not take any leave.â But it will only have the desired effect if both sexes take advantage. According to a study out of Sweden, which offers 480 days of paid leave to parents, 90 of which are reserved for dads, âeach additional month that the father stays on parental leave increases the motherâs earnings by 6.7%.â When men also take time off to care for their children, their female partnersâ"and overall family incomeâ"benefit. So does the company. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal detailing how expanding the companyâs paid leave policy from 12 weeks to 18 weeks decreased attrition rates of new moms by 50%, which in turn helped the company avoid costly turnover. And tech companies and financial firms have been in a virtual arms race the past year to provide better paid leave policies than their competitors (just ask Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who took two months of leave when his daughter was born). California, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island have passed laws guaranteeing paid leave; 19 other states and Washington D.C. have laws in the works. The issue is uniquely positioned in the 2016 election because, unlike equal pay legislation, it enjoys support on both sides of the political aisle. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clintonâs official position calls for âup to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave.â Her Republican counterpart Donald Trump has (sort of) come out in support of more generous parental leave policies (or at least, his daughter Ivanka has). Both of the nominees are battling it out over who has more worker- and family-friendly policies; paid time off is one that a hefty majority of voters support. (Support for paid time off and subsidized childcare do not appear in the official Republican party platform.) Read Next: Where Presidential Candidates Stand on Equal Pay The Issue: Representation in Upper Management According to the Department of Labor, women make up 47% of the workforce in the U.S., and 58.6% of women age 16 or older are participating in the labor market. Women enter the workforce in roughly equal numbers to men, and yet they account for just 14.6% of executive officers, 8.1% of top earners, and 4.6% of Fortune 500 CEOs, according to American Progress. Some of this can be traced back to that critical age of 32: Workplace analytics firm Visier found that just when women are leaving the workforce to have children is around the time workers tend to move up the ranks in their company. While men and women hold roughly the same number of management positions throughout their 20s, once workers hit the age of 32, men hold a significantly higher proportion of those roles (as much as 10% more). And managers earn, on average, double the wages of nonmanagers, according to the report. As it turns out, getting more women into the management ranks isnât just good for the women, itâs good for the companyâs bottom line. According to a February study by the Peterson Institute for International Economics of 22,000 publicly traded entities, âan increase in the share of women from zero to 30 percentâ in top management roles âwould be associated with a 15% rise in profitability,â the New York Times reported. So whatâs being done to address the management pipeline problem? Paid leave could make a big difference by ensuring more women get back to work. âIf you have a supportive set of policies, which would include paternal leave, which allows women to have children while maintaining their careers in a relatively undisruptive manner, you see more women making it to the very top,â Marcus Noland, the Peterson Instituteâs director of studies, told the NYT. Getting more women into PL roles is critical too. Many high-ranking women are in staff jobs, like human resources and communications, rather than âline of businessâ roles with responsibility for profit and lossâ"a key step on the path to the executive suite. In Fortune 500 companies, only 1 in 10 line jobs is held by a woman. That wonât change until company culture changes. Rebecca Shambaugh, writing in the Harvard Business Review, puts the onus on CEOs and bosses: This is as broad as building and sustaining an inclusive, collaborative culture and rethinking old systems and processes such as recruitment, performance management, succession planning, and talent development to ensure there is a non-biased and consistent process to identify, develop, and advance leaders in their organization. The Issue: Women Are Opting Out If thereâs one silver lining to persistent workplace inequality, itâs in the small business realm. The number of women-owned businesses in the U.S. has been steadily increasing for the past two decades. The National Association of Women Owned Businesses reports that female-owned small businesses are launching at a much higher rate than those started by men. Minority women in particular are benefitting from the small biz boom. According to the 2015 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, from 1997 to 2015, ânon-minority women-owned firms grew 40% over the 18-year time period, black women-owned firms grew 322% and Latina-owned firms grew 224%.â That makes black women the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in America. And itâs all of the other discrimination women face in the corporate sector that may be pushing them to become their own bosses. âWe attribute the growth in women-owned firms to the lack of fair pay, fair promotion, and family-friendly policies found in corporate America,â Margot Dorfman, CEO of the U.S. Womenâs Chamber of Commerce, told Fortune. âWomen of color, when you look at the statistics, are impacted more significantly by all of the negative factors that women face. Itâs not surprising that they have chosen to invest in themselves.â

To help you decide, we went out and purchased the top 6 types of resume paper from Office flaschenpfand and rated them on their look and feel.Heres what we foundResume Paper 1 Linen 100% Cotton (32lb) ?????Linen resume paper has a unique cross-hatch text ure. This 32lb linen resume paper was by far the best resume paper we tried. The linen finish has a unique, premium texture that makes holding the paper irresistible. Not only that, but standard linen paper is made of 100% cotton and weighs 32lb, making it durable. To give your resume a sophisticated look and make a lasting impression on the hiring manager, this is the resume paper for you. TipWhen printing your resume, keep in mind that most textured paper usually only applies the features to one side.Resume Paper 2 White 100% Cotton (32lb) ?????Nothing shouts Im a professional like white resume paper.Want to play it safe? This white cotton resume paper is the perfect choice. The plain texture and white stock keep distractions to a minimum, making your resume look crisp and formal. Meanwhile, the heavier weight gives the paper a nice heft. The only thing this resume paper is lacking is something that really sets it apart from the competition, like a distinctive texture or color.Resume Paper 3 White 100% Cotton (24lb) ?????If you use the color red on your resume, white resume paper will help those details pop.To highlight the difference resume paper weight can make, we also bought white 100% cotton paper in 24lb.Immediately, we noticed the paper is flimsier, less impressive, and more likely to get crumpled than its higher-quality 32lb counterpart. However, this resume paper is an acceptable choice if you need something understated and formal on a budget.Resume Paper 4 Ivory 25% Cotton (32lb) ?????You wouldnt settle for 25% of your salary. Dont settle for 25% cotton either.Sophisticated and subtle, this ivory 32lb paper is a great choice if you need a resume paper with some flair. The warm ivory color stands out, and gives your resume a timeless, chic look. However, the low cotton content prevents us from wholeheartedly recommending this resume paper. At 25% cotton, it lacks the premium feeling and pleasant texture that 100% cotton paper has.Resume Paper 5 Ivory 10 0% Cotton (24lb) ?????Much like an M.S. in Marketing, resume paper is definitely a great investment. This resume paper is nearly identical to the previous one, except that it boasts a higher cotton content and it makes a serious difference. The higher percentage of cotton toughens the paper, making it harder to tear and crease. Additionally, the cotton adds a pleasant texture and makes the resume feel more premium. Not only that, paper with a higher percentage of cotton lasts longer. If you need a durable resume paper with a classic look, this is a solid option.Resume Paper 6 Ivory 25% Cotton (24lb) ?????4 out of 5 hiring managers agree nothing ruins a good application quite like schwimmbad resume paper. This was the least impressive of the resume paper options we purchased. While ivory looks timeless and classy on higher quality paper, on this lower-cotton content sheet, the color is washed out almost like its stained. Not only that, but the lighter weight is noticeable. Compared to a 32lb sheet, this paper feels flimsy and cheap.Although its an improvement on regular printer paper, we dont recommend this resume paper.Where to Buy Resume PaperYou know what type of paper to buy, now you just need to know where to buy it.For that, you have a few optionsYou can find basic resume paper at any big box store like Target and Walmart. For more options, office supply stores such as Staples and Office Depot boast a wider selection of resume paper with different colors, weights, and stocks.Otherwise, you can buy resume paper online at the following retail establishmentsWalmartStaplesTargetOffice DepotWalgreensCVSAmazonWhat are the best resume paper brands? If youre on a budget, companies like HP produce affordable resume paper. But if you want your resume to pop, Southworth resume paper is the industry standard, and is widely available.Resume Printing Where Can I Print My Resume?Today, few people have printers at home.If this describes your situation, you can have your resume printed professionally at these placesFedExStaplesOffice DepotYour local public libraryTakeawayWe hope our breakdown and comparison have made it easier to decide which resume paper is best for you.But before you print out your resume on expensive paper, make sure you know how to write a resume that highlights your strengths. And if youre in a hurry, try our easy-to-use resume builder and cover letter builder to create a stunning job application in minutes.

Fairygodboss of the Week Eli Walker
Fairygodboss of the Week Eli Walker Eli Walker was pursuing an acting career when she started teaching joga. She saw a major connection between the performing arts and joga but realized joga was much mora rigid and patriarchal. She wondered what would happen if joga classes were made a little more social (and more fun). Then, at a bar in Lower Manhattan, she had a great idea combining joga with a bit of wine. Two years later, her company, Drunk joga, is a nationwide brand that hosts retreats and shares the joy of yoga with people of all kinds. We spoke to her more about how she took her company from concept to success, the challenges shes overcome to do what she loves and how she unwinds from a busy day teaching students and managing business. She also shared her best advice for women who want a career like hers.Fairygodboss of the Week Eli WalkerFounder and CEO of Drunk YogaGreater New York City AreaTell us a little about your career. How did you get to where you are now?I grew up i n a small farm town in Wisconsin. I got a scholarship to attend New York Universitys Tisch School of the Arts in 2008, where I developed an affinity for interactive and experimental performance arts. Throughout college I worked in bars and after graduating, I became a yoga teacher. Ive always loved philosophy, and I was a competitive gymnast growing up, so it seemed like the perfect job as a I pursued my acting career. After a couple of years, I began to identify similarities between yoga and performance. To me, teaching yoga felt like an interactive performance art piece where the students were both audience and actor, and I was the teacher, storyteller and director creating space for insight and transformation. That said, most traditional yoga classes youll attend are quite patriarchal in structure. Imagine wise teacher who knows all at the top of the room while all students blindly follow instruction, leid speaking, nor acknowlumineszenzdiodeging each others presence. This felt a bsurd to me. If were all here to have a collective experience, learn techniques to be and cultivate joy, why not interact? Why not use what we have to lift each other up? I knew there was a connection between storytelling and yoga, and that I had the skill and desire to bridge the gap. But I wasnt sure quite how to do it.In 2017, I started my first company called Divine Your Story. I developed a monologue-writing technique accompanied by a beginner-friendly yoga sequence to help students quite literally rewrite a life narrative thats not serving them in a more joyful direction. I worked really hard on this, and decided the best way to launch my new endeavor was with a Divine Your Story retreat to Bali in January of 2018. (Because I mean, why not? Beats New York in the winter, am I right?)I soon realized that yoga retreats are a hard sell in New York. Competition is steep, and I was just starting out. Since I was breaking away from a conventional yoga retreat and trying to attract no n-yogis, I started brainstorming ideas about how I could reach a new audience of people who might like to sign up for my Bali retreat. Synchronistically, I was out one night late in a bar that I used to bartend at in Lower Manhattan with some friends. I was catching up with the owner, my former boss, who said Youre a yoga teacher now? You should teach me yoga, I cant even touch my toes Then, he bent down and touched his toes. Oh, he said, surprised. I guess I can do it when Im drunk.I blurted, Lets just do Drunk YogaImmediate lightbulb. I asked him then if I could teach a yoga class with wine in-hand in the bar every week. He said, Sure, what do you want to call it? Tipsy yoga? I said, No. Drunk Yoga. (Because go big or go home, right?)I had this idea a yoga class designed purely for joy. Wine brings people together and yoga brings you to yourself. So, what better way to inspire unity through community and to make yoga accessible than by letting people do it in bars with friends?I s pent a lot of time coming up with a sequence and fun yoga drinking games, all for the purpose of lifting spirits. But, alas, nobody came to the class for about a month. I was about to give up, but in one last-ditch effort, I called a journalist friend at Gothamist. She wrote a great article about my Drunk Yoga class and as soon as it was published, it immediately went viral. In November 2017, millions of people had read about Drunk Yoga and the views and interview requests kept on coming (even still to this day). I quickly mobilized. I trained new teachers, registered the trademark and developed a business plan. Now, in 2019, I have an amazing team of dedicated staff who believe in my mission to make yoga fun and accessible to the masses through the support of community essentially teaching the art of not taking yoga (or yourself) too seriously. Were already expanding to other markets, licensing teachers in major cities across the country and hosted our first Drunk on Joy yoga retrea t to Tuscany in May.Another way were expanding is by bringing customized classes to corporate organizations. Were creating Yoga Menus of Joy, which has been a dream come true for me to work with specific audiences to curate fun yoga experiences for their team on an on-going basis. What is an accomplishment that you are proud of?Generally, Im proud of every time Ive led with kindness and acted with integrity in the face of adversity. Specifically, Im proud of having created a sustainable company (ahem, Drunk Yoga) that integrates all of my passions, skills and talents in such a way that allows me to do what a love and help foster joy and self-empowerment for others. What is a challenge that youve faced and overcome?I was backpacking through India and Thailand in 2015 having my quarter-life existential crisis, as you do when, plot twist, I fell through a roof and severely damaged my back. My ribs were broken, ligaments torn and other things I cant pronounce were dislocated. I didnt k now if Id ever be able to do yoga again.I had to decide what I wanted and why I wanted it if I were to take on the challenge of practicing and teaching yoga in the same capacity as I had previously. Well, I did the deep-soul-diving work and mustered up the motivation necessary. And Ill save you the gruesome details, because my was it a difficult year to follow. Lots of tears and lots of pain. But, listen, I did it. Im here. Full of scar tissue, sure, and regular visits to the chiropractor, positiv a fear of walking on most roofs... But also an enhanced sense of gratitude for life and an understanding of the importance of this ephemeral body.Who is YOUR Fairygodboss? and Why?Anna Deveare Smith is my career idol. Ive always looked to her and her career path as a guide as Ive developed my own. Shes a wildly successful solo-performance artist, creating meaningful works that uncover truths about current sociological issues. Shes also an acclaimed TV actress and a professor at NYU. Shes h ard-working, compassionate, and creative. Shes built a career that inspires me to do work that matters with integrity and service to community. What do you do when youre not working?Ill let you know whenever I stop working... Just kidding. (Kind of.) I love to do acro yoga its partner yoga mixed with acrobatics. I feel so much joy when I practice acro it makes me feel strong, connected with others, and present. And Netflix, obviously. I also love a good Netflix show.Lightning Round What book would you bring with you on a desert island?Milan Kunderas The Book of Laughter and Forgetting.Lightning Round What is your shopping vice? What would you buy if you won the lottery? All the healing crystals. All of them. What is your no. 1 career tip youd like to share with other women who want to have successful careers like you?Take the time to know yourself before diving into any career with full force. However long it takes, learn who you are and what your values are. Know your why. You cant create anything of substance in your career unless you know who is doing the doing.
